THE UNITED NATIONS DIGITAL IDENTIFICATION STRATEGY FOR ALL OF SOCIETY

NZ is developing its own Domestic Digital Identity Framework. (UN Digital ID Tools for UN Member States have been established)NZs starategy for Domestic Digital Identification system is governed by the Digital Identity Services Trust Framework Act 2023. The Dept of Internal Affairs regulates this for New Zealanders to access public and private services online

Digital Identity verification processes include Biometrics. NZ First Party have emphasized that physical identification documents must remain an option. However the UN SDG 16.9 Target Digital Identity for ALL peoples across All Societies has been officially acknowledged across NZ Government (Global Agenda 2030 Transforming Our Lives)

NZ Govt strategy of Trust and Inclusion for Aotearoa NZ is described as “ building trust in the Digital Eco-system. Refers to the UNs role in Digital Identification worldwide for ALL ‘leaving No-one Behind’ The UNs involvement stems from Target 16.9 SDG Global Agenda 2030- Transforming Our Lives 2030 ‘Providing Legal Identity for All by 2030”.

This is a global initiative with the World Bank in partnership with the UN and other organizations. (World Bank ID4D) helping UN Member States to develop robust inclusive digital identification systems. The UN’s  global push for legal identity and digital inclusion. Also refers to challenges for Irregular Migrants (Illegal) with no official identification documents  – UN Agenda 2030 and the UN Global Compact Of Migration both have the same core message ‘Leaving No-one Behind’
