NZ Scientists have researcher whether Ice is getting thicker – Growing or Melting. 2017 these Scientists explained how ‘Regional Climate Variability caused some of NZs Ice Glaciers to grow larger between the years 1983 to 2008, contrary to reported global trends. That Antarctica Sea ice was much thicker than expected. Averaging over 2 metres in parts of the Ross Seas, this was due to the formation of ‘platelet ice’ from super cooled water

He described the cause of this as being linked to a ‘platelet ice’ which forms from super-cooled water coming from beneath the Ice Shelves hence attaching to the under-side of the sea ice. It was said that this discovery provides important baseline data to monitor changes in responding to climate change. But the researchers said that the ‘thickness of the ice was not well understood’

17^th January 2022 Stuff NZ report that Scientists in the Antarctica have designed a new device that can literally break new ground into how the planets systems work. The Kiwi led Project- working alongside scientists from Norway & the US had built a High Precision Super-cooling Measurement instrument to help measure the ‘super-cooled’ ocean water below the Antarctic Sea Ice
